This course teaches students to use mathematical models to understand and predict phenomena in science and engineering. Through a mix of lectures, in-depth discussions, and hands-on exercises and projects, students will explore how math is applied in various fields such as the spread of diseases, ocean waves, stock market values, and aerodynamics. Students will gain skills in solving algebraic problems, understanding mathematical modeling terminology, and applying algebraic, geometric, and graphical reasoning to recognize patterns. The program culminates in a final project where students investigate or extend a mathematical model discussed in class.
A typical day involves a mix of lectures, in-depth discussions of examples, and hands-on exercises and projects related to mathematical modeling.
